The Professional Communication (HUT 102) is a common course for APJ KTU B-Tech Students in the first year (S1 &S2) 2019 Scheme. Professional Communication is the most important factor in every career field. The development of good communication skills is essential to success in almost any walk of life, whether it be work-related or personal. The importance of this subject can hardly be overestimated. This module teaches students how to adapt their language for more effective communication. Writing ability is emphasized throughout this module, with all activities geared towards using language accurately, precisely, and appropriately for different purposes.

Use of language in communication: Significance of technical communication Vocabulary Development: technical vocabulary, the vocabulary used in formal letters/emails and reports, sequence words, misspelt words, compound words, finding suitable synonyms, paraphrasing, verbal analogies. Language Development: subject-verb agreement, personal passive voice, numerical adjectives, embedded sentences, clauses, conditionals, reported speech, active/passive voice.
Technology-based communication: Effective email messages, slide presentations, editing skills using the software. Modern-day research and study skills: search engines, repositories, forums such as Git Hub, Stack Exchange, OSS communities (MOOC, SWAYAM, NPTEL), and Quora; Plagiarism
